System requirements for Ubuntu Server

In this article, we will discuss about what are the system requirements for Ubuntu server.

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Debian mostly composed of free and open-source software. Ubuntu is officially released in three editions: Desktop, Server, and Core for Internet of things devices and robots. All the editions can run on the computer alone, or in a virtual machine.

The number of PCs, servers and virtual machines that have booted Ubuntu runs into the hundreds of millions.

And while the operating system and software for the server are free, that doesn’t mean that they’re not powerful. Using an Ubuntu-powered server farm, the incredible CGI effects of the smash-hit movie Avatar have all created.

It may seem like a no-brainer to want to access this free, powerful software to run your own server. But you will need to make sure that your hardware is up to spec first.

Now, we’d divide this into multiple parts.

Processor Speed

It is recommended to use at least 1GHz processor but we recommend to use minimum 2GHz processor. This is especially true if you are planning to run more resource-intensive applications.

The minimal installation is, however, a very stripped down version. It doesn’t cover many of the features you may need or want, particularly if you’re new to the system.

RAM

For RAM, it is recommended to use 1GB for live server. Note that you can only use the Live Server installer on AMD64 systems. We recommend to use at least 2GB RAM for good performance. This gives you some headroom to run the more RAM-hungry applications.

Disk Space

In the case of disk space, we recommend using at least 2.5GB for full installation. If you want to install additional software, you need more disk space. So, it depends on your requirement and the use of the server.

We have covered some basic configuration of the Ubuntu server. If you need higher configuration server, send us an email on info@hostperl.com.
